Custom Orthotics

The foot is made up of 26 bones, 33 joints, 106 ligaments, muscles, tendons and a vast network of nerves, arteries and veins….. it’s no wonder a lot can go wrong!

Designed to enhance motion of your foot and body, Orthotics work by modifying the forces between your foot and the ground.
Foot orthotics are customised insoles made specifically for you to correct the way you stand, walk or run. Developed to improve posture, redistribute pressure and correct the mechanical function of your feet, orthotics decrease the overloading forces on the structures of the foot and lower limb, hence decreasing pain levels, promoting faster healing rates and reducing the likelihood of future injury.

Orthotics have been shown to help with heel spurs, bunions, arthritic joints, shin splints, knee hip and lower back pain by decreasing pain levels. Orthotics promote faster healing rates and reduce the likelihood of future injury.

Growing Children’s Feet

Many adult foot issues are like other body ailments, many have their origins in infancy and are present at birth. Orthotic treatment in children has been used to successfully help with postural, balance issues and uncontrolled hypermobility. Unforeseen concerns may include poor foot posture, awkward walking or running style. Periodic podiatry attention and regular foot assessments can minimise these problems in later life. Katie Nilan Podiatry has a special interest in children’s feet and has undergone additional postgraduate training in this area.
